An extra large cowhide covers real floor space. These are our biggest full-size hides, about 6½′ to 8½′ long, each one natural, hand-selected and photographed on its own.

X-Large or XX-Large?

• X-Large: about 7′ × 6′. Fits most living rooms and sits comfortably under a coffee table.
• XX-Large: about 8′ × 7′. For open-plan rooms, large living rooms and the space at the foot of a king bed.

We measure every hide at its longest and widest points, so the exact size is in each listing.

Where an Extra Large Hide Works

• Living room: under the coffee table, with the front legs of the sofa and chairs resting on the hide.
• Bedroom: across the foot of a queen or king bed, or to one side so it's the first thing your feet touch.
• Open spaces: layered over a jute or sisal rug to define a seating area.

A simple check before you buy: mark the hide's measurements on the floor with painter's tape and see how it sits with your furniture.

Patterns You'll Find

• Salt and pepper: a white base finely speckled with black or brown.
• Brindle: natural streaks of brown, tan and black, like wood grain.
• Tricolor: brown, black and white together.
• Black and white: bold spots or fine speckles.
• Grey: naturally grey hides, from silver to charcoal.

Made to Live With

Hair-on cowhide handles everyday foot traffic, kids and pets well. Shake it out or vacuum on low, blot spills right away, and rotate the hide every few months so it wears evenly. With simple care, a cowhide lasts 20+ years.

What size cowhide should I get for my living room?
